After thoughts

Well, we've been back a while now. It took me a while to gather my thoughts and realize what we did.
9 Cars started of on the ludicrous journey to Rome, fueled by nothing else then precious waste cooking oil... 8 Managed to arrive in Rome covering more then 15.000km on chip fat.

What a roller coaster trip this was!
- dozens of break downs
- gallons of fat
- a bunch of mountain passes
- blistering heat and overheating cars
- brilliant BBQ
- fine music
- team spirit
- hail storms
- a bucket of laughs
- and of course great fun and satisfaction

Rome

Made it!don't even ask to describe the difficulties the teams encountered. But most of us made it to Rome! Yesterday the teams one by one made it to our gathering point, Camping Smeraldo. Way to late to make an effort trying to reach the Colosseum. Instead it was decided to have the big bbq and the Chef'Special show first and do a Colosseum drive by Sunday morning. More to come.

Hitched

Yesterday was 'eventful' to say the least. The Angels hold the record of breaking down. 7 Or 8 times They can't remember. All but 1 team made it to Milan. Sadly the Danish poker team had major issues firing up the car. No go for them. :( But at least they had the brightest car. When we finally made it to our friends of The Hub Milan we were all very tired. Not giving in to his illness Josh still gave it everything when they rocked the house: Chef'Special style! This morning the fine ladies of Charlie's Angels decided it was best to hitch up Kermit to a bigger car. Mine was chosen, and with that I inherited the overheating issues as well. Thanks for all the heat ladies! :)

Waste Busters blog entry

Donderdag nacht was drama.

A victim of used oil

A new morning and already a fatty victim. Not really, we're refuelling now and continue our way. Another 370km and we're in Milan.

First at random tank stop

We're on high way 61 exit 47 in Germany. The good people at McDonald's helped us to 2 jerrycans of used oil to keep us on the move. Way to go guys! And thanks for the help.

Pitstop nr 1

After some start up problems we're on our way. The 1st team didn't even leave Rotterdam when trouble hit. Charlie's Angels lost a cap of the radiator and lost all cooling fluid. Not a pretty sight. :( Fixed and on the move again. Woohoo! Quickly switched the fuel filter on the Chef'Special bus and on our way to Druten for refuelling. Only team TOF is still there. So let's get moving!

Filtering video

It may not look like much, but this oil filtering rig managed to filter about 600 liters of oil in an afternoon. And we used only 2 filterbags!! By the end of the batch of oil the filters did get clogged a bit, but it shows how clean the Bram Ladage oil is.

All of the participants will get the smaller version of this filterbag to use along the way.

Oil filtering in progress

This is the oil filtering in progress. We use 1 micron filter bags to filter the oil from any debri and other particles. Since the oi is rather clean to start with this process is quick. This is of course also due to the large filtering surface area these bags have.

De filterinstallatie in aanbouw

To install our filter bags we needed a clever construction. So a bit of home improvement skills are useful. :)

Today is huge-oil-filter-day

Not yet a public holiday, but it soon will be!! ;)

Not really, but today we'll hopefully filter a batch of about 600 liters of used cooking oil of Bram Ladage. All teams will get about 50 liters at the start to get everyone on their way.

It's a greasy job, but we have to get through it. If time permits, I'll post some pictures of our oil filtering rig.

Wonders of Waste - countdown

The blogging season is open. :)

Almost there, another few days and the first Wonders of Waste tour is on its way!

Friday I picked up a batch of jerrycans from the Rijnlandse Vatenhandel. All teams will get two cans with Bram Ladage oil to get started and on their way.
Still lot's to do and exciting times ahead.

I'll try to keep everyone posted on the progress.
